The Name Became the House
After leaving Gucci, Tom Ford did what few designers have managed and made his own name the label, beginning in 2005 with beauty and eyewear, adding menswear built on rigorous tailoring, then womenswear, until Tom Ford stood as a complete house rather than a signature. In the same years he directed two admired films, A Single Man and Nocturnal Animals, applying the same exact control of surface to another medium.
This second Rizzoli volume, again made with Bridget Foley and published in 2021, documents that independent chapter as its predecessor documented the Gucci years. Taken together the pair record a rare arc, a designer who defined one era at a house he revived and then a second one under his own name.
