The Register

The permanent record of endurance: the oldest firms, presses, libraries and houses, entered codice by codice. Browse the Codices.

The Register is LIBRO’s independently curated record of institutions, people, works and objects. Inclusion is editorial and does not constitute regulatory registration, accreditation or endorsement.

What Earns a Record

A record is earned, never bought. The house records an entity when its longevity, craft or consequence is material to the fields The Register studies, and when its history can be documented from sources the house is prepared to cite — every record carries its citations, and every revision is kept. The Register grows by admission rather than accumulation, so absence is meaningful: what is not listed has not been recorded, and nothing more.

Status Vocabulary

Recorded
The floor. The entity is documented in The Register from cited sources; nothing beyond documentation is implied.
Recognised
The house records the entity as materially significant within its field.
Admitted
The record has passed the house’s admission review against the published criteria.
Suspended
The record’s standing is paused pending review; the record itself remains.
Withdrawn
The house has withdrawn the record’s standing. The event, like every other, stays on the record.
Deaccessioned
Objects only: formally removed from the collection in which The Register recorded them.

Recent Notices

Notices are dated status events — recorded, recognised, admitted, suspended, withdrawn — published as they occur. None are current.
