John Hatchard opened at 173 Piccadilly in 1797 and the shop has traded from Piccadilly ever since — the oldest bookshop in the United Kingdom, holder of three royal warrants. It sits in this library twice over: a Curator by trade, an Endurer by any measure of continuous identity.
